Adult Instruction

Instruction and play will be offered weekly from May through September.  All adult classes are 80 minutes.  Advance registration is required. Purchase six class pass that can be used for any adult class or try a class through the purchase of a single class pass.  To register for adult classes click on the appropriate class in upcoming events on this page.   



Introduction to Deep Tennis for Adults.  For beginning and less-experienced players and/or those preferring or requiring balls hit to them with low to moderate power and difficulty.  Employs a holistic movement-based approach to learning the fundamentals of tennis.  All the basic strokes and movements will be taught as they are performed by expert players. Emphasis on balance; expressive, rhythmic dance-like movement; relaxation; extension; acceleration; and focus. Offered Tuesday & Thursday 8:00-9:20.  Instructor: Charley Darley. 

Deep Tennis for Adults.  For experienced players able to handle balls hit with a moderate to high degree of power and requiring a moderate to wide range of court coverage.  Includes action-based drilling and point-playing focused on expert stroke and movement techniques for singles and doubles shots, as well as shot patterns and strategy. Instruction has a foundation in balanced, relaxed, expressive, rhythmic movement, as well as awareness as it plays out in readiness, anticipation and court positioning.  Offered Tuesday and Thursday  9:30-10:50 & Thursday 5:30-6:50.  Instructor: Charley Darley. 

Cardio Adult Class. New this year.  A fast paced class emphasizing higher speed drills to get the legs working and heart pumping.  Tuesday evening from 5:30-6:50.




Private lessons are also available with Charley Darley, Director of Tennis Instruction. Charley is a three time Minnesota High School Boys Singles Champion and  two time All American at the University of California-Berkeley.  He holds Stanford University doctoral and post-doctoral degrees in Cognitive Psychology, which he has applied to his understanding and instruction of tennis.   Contact Charley at instruction@playtenniscookcounty.org or 319 621-4310.
